Residents Hear from Memorial Medical Center's Orthopedic Surgeon

Wednesday, April 30th, 2014 -- 12:38 PM

-Residents were given an opportunity to view an operating room at Memorial Medical Center and heard from Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. David Carlson.

Dr. Carlson received a lot of praise from several former patients of his, but he said it?s a team effort and he couldn?t do it without his staff.

Dr. Carlson said, "This is a team effort. I'm just a part of the team. We've been very fortunate here. Our hospital has one of the lowest infection rates of any hospital I've ever worked in. And I attribute that to the staff that cleans the hospital. That's huge! So, it's all about the team effort."

Dr. Carlson explained just what Orthopedic Surgery is.

"Orthopedic surgery is muscoskeletal surgery," said Dr. Carlson. "What we do is, we take care of trauma, we take care of any fractures, we take care of people who have arthritis and other degenerative conditions. People that have neurologic problems, we see those things. Back and neck problems. We see kids and adults. One of the reasons I went into orthopedics is I wanted to work with a variety of people and this gives me the opportunity to do that."

Dr. Carlson also took the time to answer questions from those present, showed people the different types of equipment they use and gave them a tour of the OR.
