BloodCenter of Wisconsin Hosting a Blood Drive at Memorial Medical Center Today, Final

Thursday, April 17th, 2014 -- 1:16 PM

-The BloodCenter of Wisconsin is hosting a blood drive at Memorial Medical Center today.

Vicki Bohman, Community Recruiter, at the BloodCenter talked about why people should take the time to donate.

Vicki said, "Blood is something that is needed every single day. There is no substitute for blood. When we have a patient who comes in and needs a blood transfusion, the only way we can get it is from people like you and me who are willing to take a little bit of our time, roll up our sleeves and donate a pint of blood. The average person does have 10-12 pints in their body so you can easily give up one pint. And that one donation can save up to 3 lives because we take the different components of the blood, red cells, platelets and plasma, each one can go help a different hospital patient."

Vicki said that today is a great way to give back to your local hospital.

Vicki said, "We are the local supplier of blood in the area so this is a great way to give back to your local hospital. It'll only take you about 45 minutes to an hour and you not only get to feel good about helping save a life, but you also get a free water park ticket to Mt. Olympus in Wisconsin Dells."

Once again, the Blood Drive is today, April 17th, from 11am to 4pm.
