The Neillsville Public Library Celebrates National Library Week, Part 3

Wednesday, April 16th, 2014 -- 11:26 AM

-This week is National Library Week and the Neillsville Public Library has special activities planned throughout the week.

During National Library Week, and throughout April, libraries host special events to highlight the unique role libraries play communities. Jo Ann Gustavson, Librarian at Neillsville, and Chris Smith, a Neillsville Library Board Member talked about what the Neillsville Library has to offer.

Chris said they have some big goals in mind for the future.

Chris said, "Goals would be to include awareness, among the general public, that young adult literature is a vibrant, growing genre with much to offer. The whole "Hunger Games." That was huge! The library is a place to visit the latest in literature for teens through adult through children. Another goal is to reinvent our library website. We'd like to develop a monthly e-newsletter. We want to offer exciting exhibitions, classes, authors or artists for presentations. As a matter of fact, we have Jerry Apps, he's a famous Wisconsin author, and he is coming to our Neillsville Library on Saturday, August 2nd."

Chris continued on with more goals they have for the Neillsville Public Library.

She continued, "We also are exploring some Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibitions to come to our area as well as some other exhibits. Another goal is to promote the library as a community resource for learning. Like Jo Ann had mentioned, offer sessions to navigate iPad, iPad apps and tips. Share a favorite app and get a few new ideas from some other people at the same time. So those are some of the goals we're looking at right now for 2014."
