?Work Zone Awareness Week? April 7-11

To help protect road workers and other motorists, Governor Scott Walker has proclaimed next week (April 7 to 11) as ?Work Zone Awareness Week? in Wisconsin.Work zones require drivers? full attention as they can be challenging to navigate ? often involving reduced speeds, lane shifts, narrow or uneven pavements.
Highway workers are vulnerable ? often working just feet away from moving traffic ? but most work zone deaths and injuries are to motorists.
Last year, about 1,600 crashes occurred in Wisconsin work zones resulting in nine deaths and some 625 injuries. To protect highway workers and encourage compliance with traffic laws, fines are double in work zones.
