Unemployment Rates Rise in Most Wisconsin Counties and Cities

Thursday, April 3rd, 2014 -- 11:59 AM

-Unemployment rates are up in most Wisconsin counties and cities.

The state Department of Workforce Development reported Wednesday that preliminary rates for February are up in all but two of the state's largest 32 cities. Similarly, rates are up in all but three of Wisconsin's 72 largest counties.

But DWD cautions that because local unemployment rates are not seasonally adjusted, increases between January and February are common due to an expanding labor force.

Clark County has an unemployment rate of 8.1%, up from 7.7% the previous month. Clark ranks 31st out of 72 counties for unemployment.

For our neighboring couties, Chippewa has an unemployment rate of 7.7%, Eau Claire is at 5.7%, 9.1% for Jackson County, 7.8% for Wood County, Marathon County is at 6.9% and Taylor County is at 8.6%.
