Neillsville District Administrator Talks 180 Days Bill, Final

Monday, March 31st, 2014 -- 1:15 PM

-A bill awaiting Governor Scott Walker?s signature would give school districts more flexibility on the number of days required for face-to-face teaching.

Neillsville District Administrator John Gaier said even with the potential changes looming, should the bill be signed, they can?t lose focus on making sure kids get the best education.

John said, "One of the things we have to be careful of is we still have academic goals and objectives that we need our kids to meet in order to prepare them for college and career readiness. So, even though, this bill is out there that would reduce the number of days that we have to meet. The hours are still the same, but we still have the responsibility of making sure that our kids from the School District of Neillsville, and anywhere else, are prepared with the skills they need to be successful whether they go into a career field right away or whether they go on to a post secondary education. So, we can't lose site, I think, of the mission of our district even with this bill out there."

If Governor Walker signs the bill before this school year?s end or the beginning of the next year, changes could be made to Neillsville?s, and all school districts, calendars.
