Close to a Year Later, City Prepares to Raze Property on 15th Street

Monday, March 31st, 2014 -- 10:55 AM

-The Neillsville City Council gave the final go ahead for the TIF District Loan #2.

At their meeting at the beginning of March, the council agreed to refinance the loan with Citizens State Bank of Loyal. This approval puts the final touches on that process.

The council also approved to tear down the property on West 15th Street, via raze order, that burned in a fire nearly one year ago. It has been a wild ride for the building. The original owner sold the home to Amy Simington after waiting a long time, claiming the city did not conduct a proper investigation. He felt the cause of the fire was not an accident.

Simigton was cited after she took control of the property for failing to clean it, but still no progress was made. The city was unable to locate her for a while, but when they did, she was given 30 days to do something with the property. She didn?t, so the city will now raze building.

The property has back taxes on it, a possible unpaid mortgage, some unpaid bills and it?s expected to cost $8,000-$10,000 to tear it down.

The council approved to run an ad asking for bids to get the building down.
