Clark County in the Middle Regarding Health of Wisconsin Counties, Final

Friday, March 28th, 2014 -- 9:55 AM

-A new county health rankings report released by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation ranks Clark County residents in the top half of healthiest in the state compared to other counties.

Researchers used five measures to assess the level of overall health or ?health outcomes? for each county: the rate of people dying before age 75, the percent of people who report being in fair or poor health, the number of days people report being in poor physical and poor mental health, and the rate of low birthweight infants. The report also looks at factors that affect people?s health within four categories: health behavior, clinical care, social and economic factors, and physical environment.

?The County Health Rankings and other data sources provide indicators of health status that play a vital role in planning for services,? said Robert Leischow, Clark County Health Officer. ?Though there are clear opportunities for improvement, there are assets and resources in Clark County that can be and are being leveraged as we strive to become a healthier county.? Those interested in learning more about public health activities and services in Clark County are invited to contact the Health Department.

Clark County ranks in the top half for health outcomes (28) and in the bottom quarter for health factors (63). Clark ranks near the middle of Wisconsin counties for health behaviors (39), and in the top quarter for physical environment (16). Clark County ranks in the bottom quarter for social and economic factors (56) and last for clinical care (72).
