Probable Cause Found in Case Involving the Death of a Neillsville Woman

Thursday, March 27th, 2014 -- 3:20 PM

-Probable cause was found in the case involving the death of a Neillsville woman.

In December of 2012, 19-year-old Monica Cooper passed away and an autopsy at the Dane County Medical Examiner?s Office determined she died of a heroin overdose. During the investigation, it was determined that 27-year-old Reavon Taylor was the alleged source of the heroin. He has been charged with 1st degree reckless homicide.

The Clark County District Attorney and Taylor?s defense attorney questioned Investigator Scott Haines, Detective Steve Karau and Detective Jason Bourget. The three men testified that prior to Cooper?s death, she and her boyfriend at the time, Mitchell Lenk, had allegedly run out of heroin and tried to get more.

They allegedly decided to get the drugs from the same individual that Cooper?s brother went to, according to Lenk. They went to La Crosse to meet with ?Ray? who was identified by Lenk as Reavon Taylor. After they secured not only the drugs, but money as well, Cooper and Lenk returned home. Lenk left early the next morning, the day Cooper died, and said as far as he knew, she was alive.

In the end, the defense attorney tried to have the case dismissed saying there was no actual proof that Taylor supplied the drugs. The judge did not agree and the court proceedings will continue.
