Wood County Sheriff's Department Warns Residents About Scam

-The Wood County Sheriff?s Department would like residents to be aware of a scam that recently targeted a Wood County business.In the scam, a caller identifies himself as a member of the Wood County Sheriff?s Department. The caller request a specific individual at the business and when the caller was told he wasn?t available, the left a number, 215-469-4908, and told the business to contact Officer Alfred Reed at State Investigations.
That name and number have been associated with numerous scams around the United States over the past several years. The caller claims that the person they?re looking for is delinquent on a payday or cash advance type loan. The caller will already have a long list of your information including employer, birthdate, address, Social Security number, bank account numbers and more.
If you question the caller about the loan, they sometimes become abusive and threatening. They will even bother your family and friends. Their ultimate goal, however, is to get you to buy a pre-paid debit card and provide the numbers to the caller. If you receive a call like this, do not follow the caller?s instructions.
