Marshfield Man Involved With Robbery of 96-Year-Old Grocery Store Owner Sentenced to 12 Months Probation

Tuesday, March 25th, 2014 -- 10:35 AM

-A Marshfield man has been sentenced for his involvement with the robbery of a 96-year-old grocery store owner.

Back in July of last year, a 13-year-old, who was referred to as DFO during the court hearing, entered Wolf?s Grocery in Marshfield wearing a mask, holding a pocket knife and demanded money. Margie Wolf, the 96-year-old owner, refused to give him any money and he ran.

DFO said that Cordell Ellingson had told him to rob the grocery store so they could get gas money, drive around and go swimming.

Ellingson was charged with misdemeanor theft of movable property and felony contributing to the delinquency of a child. He did plead no contest to both charges. His attorney, Ashley Reimer, stated that she would have like to put this case before a jury because she felt there was a lot of dispute in the level of Ellingson?s involvement.

The prosecuting attorney, Elizabeth Constable, also stated that complications did arise with this case as Margie Wolf, the owner of the store, did pass away recently. Also, DFO has a prior juvenile record.

In the end, Judge Todd Wolf agreed with the state?s recommendation, the defense agreed as well, and sentenced Ellingson to 12 months? probation and 50 hours of community service. The judge did also enter a stayed prison sentence of 90 days, meaning if Ellingson doesn?t follow all the terms of his probation, he will go to jail.
