Two Marshfield Men Found Guilty for the Death of a Marshfield Woman

Monday, March 24th, 2014 -- 3:29 PM

-Two Marshfield men were found guilty for their involvement in the death of a Marshfield woman.

Back in August, police responded to a report of a woman that had passed away in her apartment. Syringes with heroin residue on them were found around the body of Kayla Vanderwyst and an autopsy found she died from a heroin overdose.

An investigation led to the arrest of Justin Drinka, age 23, and Trenton Blume, age 24, for allegedly supplying Vanderwyst with the drugs. Both men were charged with 1st degree reckless homicide and Drinka also had three burglary charges filed against him.

Blume and Drinka entered a no contest plea to all the charges and they were found guilty by Wood County Judge Greg Potter. The state asked for 5 years in prison and 15 years of extended supervision for Trenton Blume and a total of 8 years in prison and 11 years of extended supervision for Justin Drinka.

Judge Potter could sentence both men to the maximum amount which would be 46 years in prison and a $100,000 fine for Blume and a total of 56 years in prison and a $125,000 fine for Drinka.

The men will be sentenced May 16th.
