BREAKING: Clark County District Attorney and Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation Find No Crime Committed by Neillsvi

Friday, March 21st, 2014 -- 11:51 AM

-The Clark County District Attorney has determined that no crime was committed by a Neillsville Police Officer during a December shooting.

Back in December, Neillsville Police Officer, 24-year-old Aaron Bembnister, was called to a residence on Grand Avenue for a domestic disturbance where a knife was involved.

According to the press release provided by the Clark County District Attorney?s office regarding the investigation, Officer Bembnister approached the home and saw 23-year-old Rickey Taylor holding a knife. He entered the home with his weapon drawn, announced who he was and told Taylor to drop the knife. Witnesses claimed that Taylor told Officer Bembnister to get out and began to approach the officer with the knife still in his hand. Officer Bembnister backed out onto the porch of the home and Taylor followed him out. Witnesses claimed that Taylor was asking the officer, ?Do you want a piece of me?? At that point, Officer Bembnister, feeling threatened and knowing he needed to end the situation, fired his weapon at Taylor.

An ambulance was immediately summoned and first aid efforts were attempted. The Neillsville Ambulance Service transported Taylor to Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville. He was then flown by Spirit Air Medical Transport to Ministry St. Joseph?s Hospital in Marshfield. He later died from his injuries.

The Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigations was assisting with this case and after Clark County Distritc Attorney Lyndsey Boon-Brunette found that no crime was committed by Officer Bembnister, she requested a review and second opinion from Assistant Attorney General Roy Korte. He too found that no crime was committed.

The conclusion of the report states, ?Officer Aaron Bembnister?s performance of his duties on December 13th, 2013 did not constitute any criminal wrongdoing and that he was justified in using deadly force when he shot Mr. Ricky Taylor. The shooting, although regrettable, was in fact justified under the circumstances. Therefore, no criminal charges will be brought against Officer Bembnister.?
