Unite Against Bullying Event in Colby Tonight

-Security Health Plan of Wisconsin Inc. awarded 17 non-profit organizations with Healthy Communities Mini-Grants focusing on three health areas that need greater attention: children?s health, behavioral health, and health literacy.The Clark County Health Department received a grant to address the area of behavioral health, particularly focusing on anti-bullying campaigns in Clark County Schools.
Brittany Mews of the Clark County Health Department said they focused on bullying for Clark County as it was a concern for parents and students.
Brittany said, "Using available data, the Clark County Health Department and the Clark County Prevention Partnership identified behavioral health, specifically bullying, as a significant issue of concern among parents and students in Clark County. Bullying is an intentional behavior that hurts or harms someone either physically or emotionally and is a serious issue that can negatively impact educational performance, decrease self esteem, cause anxiety and depression and lead to thoughts of self harm."
There are several sessions being held throughout Clark County including tonight at the Colby School District and Thursday, April 24th at the Neillsville School District. The first couple of events held in Thorp and Loyal last week had great turnouts.
All parents, school staff and students are welcomed to the sessions. Brittany hopes that these sessions will help increase the awareness of bullying and how to respond to it.
"These events will untie students, parents, school district staff members and community members together with the goal of increasing awareness of bullying, provide education on how to prevent and respond to bullying and informing people of available resources for additional help," said. Brittany. "When students, parents, educators and others unite, it means one less student is being bullied, one more person is speaking out and another young person knows they're not alone."
