Clark County Board of Supervisors Handles Wages of County Officials

Thursday, March 20th, 2014 -- 8:19 AM

-Wages were the main points of discussion at the Clark County Board of Supervisors Meeting on Tuesday evening. (3 board members absent)

A Wisconsin Statute requires the county board to fix the salary of each county official prior to his or her election. With the April 1st elections quickly approaching, the board needed to fix the salary of the Clark County Sheriff, Clerk of Court and Coroner.

For the sheriff, it was originally proposed that the individual would receive a 1% increase a year for each year starting in 2015. The proposed 2015 yearly earning would come to $67,328.09, $68,001.38 for 2016, $68,681.39 for 2017 and $69,368.20 for 2018. The board then made an amendment to the resolution instead giving the sheriff a raise of $520 per year or $.25 per hour. The amendment passed with 22 voting yes and 4 voting no. The resolution then passed 25 yes and 1 no.

For the Clerk of Court, the original resolution asked for the same 1% increase each year starting with 2015, which would have equaled out to $55,669.11 for 2015, $56,225.80 for 2016, $56,788.06 for 2017 and $57,355.94 for 2018. Once again, an amendment was approved (23 yes, 3 no) to change it to $520 per year. The resolution then approved with 24 voting yes and 2 no.

Finally, the County Coroner resolution had the same increase once again. 1% per year for each year beginning with 2015 and this would equal out to $4,500 for 2015, $4,545 for 2016, $4,590.45 for 2017 and $4,636.35 for 2018. The coroner also receives a $65.00 per diem per call at a maximum of 3 calls per day. After a couple questions about fees, the board did approve the resolution with 25 voting yes and 1 voting no.
