An Eventful Meeting for the Owen City Council

Wednesday, March 19th, 2014 -- 2:14 PM

-The Owen City Council had an eventful meeting on Tuesday of last week, especially during the public opinion portion of the meeting.

Patrick Pfeffer reported on several issues he had with the City of Owen and Public Works Department. Mr. Pfeffer stated that there was no response by the Public Works Department to a water leak, that an alarm at the booster station was never answered over a weekend until Monday morning and that a resident was told to replace his own frozen meter. Mr. Pfeffer then asked when the City was going to recoup the money spent on the infrastructure east of the city and the public works department needs to finish restoring the end of his driveway. Another resident, John Hansen asked if the zoning of the Konwinski property was going to be brought back to the table.

The city council also heard the CDA report. CDA Director Tim Swiggum reported that he has tried to contact the new owners of the bowling alley building to find out what their plans are and he talked to an Attorney with the Family Dollar who is going to look into a different location in Owen. Also, the RR has returned the contract and should be looking at closing in April and a joint meeting of the DRC, Fair Board and Parks & Rec Department will be held at the Old School on March 26th at 6 pm to discuss the City?s trails, parks and upcoming events. Finally, the CWAIC met Wednesday night to discuss its future, there are new managers at Mike?s Bar, Nathan Le Page has purchased the Owen-Withee Enterprise and previous employees of that paper are looking to start their own.
