Local Cheese Makers are Making Clark County Proud at World Champion Cheese Contest

-Some local cheese makers are making Clark County proud at the World Champion Cheese Contest being held in Madison.

Taste, texture and color are just a few of the many categories that the judges at the competition look at when deciding who the best of the best is. This is a world competition with companies competing from all around the United States and other countries.

North Hendren Dairy in Willard received 3rd place for their Black River Gorgonzola Cheese in the Gorgonzola Category. Welcome Dairy, Inc. in Colby won 2nd and 3rd place with their Pasteurized Processed Habanero Cheese in the Flavored Pasteurized Processed Cheese Category.

Holland?s Family Cheese in Thorp dominated the Aged Gouda Category receiving 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for their Marieke Gouda Super, Marieke Gouda Overjarige, and their Marieke Gouda Mature respectively. Holland?s also received a 3rd place in the Pepper Flavored Cheese Category for their Marieke Gouda Jalapeno Cheese and 3rd place in the Semi-Soft (Semi-Hard) Cheese Category for their Marieke Gouda Golden Cheese.

It wasn?t all about cheese yesterday at the competition. Grassland Dairy Products of Greenwood took home 1st for their salted butter in the Salted Butter Category.

The judging continues at the competition today and congratulations to our local cheese and butter makers.
