Neillsville's Director of Public Works Answers FAQs About Running Water Order at City Council Meeting

Thursday, March 13th, 2014 -- 9:57 AM

-The Neillsville City Council heard the Public Works report during their meeting on Tuesday, March 11th.

The big item that was brought up was the City of Neillsville being under a running water order. Over this past weekend, Dave Flynn, the Director of Public Works, said they had 5 water laterals freeze up in various locations throughout the city. He said in one case, it was the same lateral freezing up 3 times because the occupant keeps turning the water off. They've billed this individual for the second and third time as this costs the city overtime and contractor pay.

A list of frequently asked questions was brought up to Dave from Neillsville's Mayor Steve Mabie, about the running water order, which included how many faucets, the size of the stream, how long and billing. Dave said that you only need to run ONE cold water faucet and it should be one that is closest to where your pipes enter your home. The size of the stream should be the size of a pencil lead, NOT the size of a pencil.

Dave said that people should continually run their water into April. At a minimum, they MIGHT be able to stop April 1st, but it could be longer. He suggests that residents continue to run their water until they are TOLD not to do so. Finally, Dave said that the city is going to average citizen?s water bills for the past several quarters so you are not being charged for the extra water usage.
