Owen-Withee School Board Receives an Update on the Upcoming Referendum

Thursday, March 13th, 2014 -- 8:20 AM

-The Owen-Withee School Board heard a presentation to start their meeting on Monday.

Heidi Karaba gave a demonstration to the board about the PALS Testing. PALS testing, or the Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening, is administered to the 4K and kindergarten students three times per year. The screening helps to identify strengths and weaknesses in a young child?s literacy abilities and helps the teachers identify ways to meet the student?s needs. This is done to improve literacy skills in young students, to give them the foundation for success, as they proceed through school.

The board also heard an update about the district?s upcoming referendum. The referendum committee met in early March to discuss how to get the word out to the community regarding the upcoming vote.

Dee Wells provided a synopsis of the plan which includes sending a mailing to all of the district?s residences by the end of next week, hold two public meetings on March 25th with one at 3:30PM and one at 7:00PM, send a post card to all residents on March 26th reminding them to vote, send a referendum flyer home with all Elementary students on March 27th, put referendum info on the web site and use Facebook to spread the word, put posters around town in businesses and ?table toppers? on the tables at Rhondi?s, Creekside, Mobil Mart, and Cozy Corner and finally the district is doing a Letter to the Editor campaign and having articles each week leading up to the referendum.
