Greenwood School District's 3rd Annual Medieval Banquet

Monday, March 10th, 2014 -- 10:36 AM

-Walking into the east gym, it was like you stepped back in time at the Greenwood School District Friday afternoon for their 3rd Annual Medieval Banquet.

Lord Steven Renfree, or High School English Teacher Steve Renfree as he is known on a regular day, said a lot of time went into planning the event.

"We've been planning a good part of the year as we studied various kinds of literature from the time period." Lord Renfree continued, "I keep reminding them throughout the year, think about the project you can do. Think about what you can wear. Think of what microcosim of the Medieval Renaissance world you can create. But it was this week (last week) Monday through Thursday that they set up the entire gym."

The high school students put the day?s events and displays together while the middle school kids watch the events so they can prepare for their turn. The Greenwood students certainly enjoyed the day?s festivities and Lord Renfree offered his thoughts on why that is.

Lord Renfree said, "As you know, it's been a long, cold Winter and we look to Spring. We need some April showers to bring the flowers up and to lift our spirits. And this seems to be the ideal week long event to help us get through the Winter."

Groups of students put together different microcosms representing royalty, gypsies, hunter, beggars and more as the prepared to feast with King Fischer and Queen Vogler, or you may know them as High School Principal Todd Fischer and Greenwood Superintendent Jennifer Vogler.

The day?s activities included skits, singing, larping, battles and feasting.
