Owen Residents Disappointed With City Council

-Citizens express disappointment towards the Owen City Council at their meeting on Tuesday of last week.Betty Edgar and Bill Benzschawel both expressed their disappointment to the council that the Family Dollar that had been trying to build in the city was turned down. Joe Konwinski even asked the council why they discouraged business coming to Owen. Owen Mayor, Steve Heggemeier, commented that the location the Family Dollar wanted was the issue and they don?t discourage business coming to the city.
Also, Mel Lorence announced that the fire station in Curtiss is applying for a CDBG grant for $500,000 with 50% match and the council approved to send Director of Public Works, Gary Smith, to the annual WRWA Conference. The council also voted to table the issue of establishing pricing of City properties.
Finally, CDA Director Tim Swiggum reported that the Owen-Withee Chamber held their Annual Business meeting at the Meadowview with Special guest Alice in Dairyland Kristin Olson. The Clark County Visitors Guide should be ready for distribution in 2 months and the building previously known as Eckert Door has sold.
