Weekend Sports Wrap Up, Girls/Boys Basketball and Wrestling

-GIRLS BASKETBALL:

The Lady Warriors win the conference championship defeating the Fall Creek Crickets 61-40 in the Cloverbelt Girls Playoffs on Saturday. The Owen-Withee Blackhawks fell to Eau Claire Regis, 52 to 54 with the two teams getting 4th and 3rd in the conference respectively.

Several Neillsville players won conference awards:

Honorable Mention: Wendy Barth and Sierra Bethea
2nd team: Molly Attoe and Taylor Henchen
1st team: Jenny Lindner and Katelyn Crothers
Eastern Cloverbelt player of the year: Jenny Linder

BOYS BASKETBALL:

Thorp boys are Regional Final champs as they upset the Owen-Withee Blackhawks 57-54 on Saturday during the WIAA Boys Regional Final.

Now the Thorp boys will play either Turtle Lake or Eau Claire Immanuel at 7pm Thursday, March 6th in the Boys Sectional Semi Finals. And we will have that game for you live on NOW 92.7FM WPKG.

WRESTLING:

Neillsville's own Phillip Opelt qualified for the NCAA Division 3 Championships in wrestling at 133lbs for Cornell College in Iowa.

Opelt took 3rd at Regionals Saturday.

The NCAA Division III Championships will take place March 14-15 at the new U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Cedar Rapids.
