Neillsville Water Crisis Finally Over

Wednesday, February 19th, 2014 -- 1:39 PM

-The Boil Water Advisory for the City of Neillsville has been lifted.

Please be advised that the water in the City of Neillsville is safe to drink. The boil order is no longer in effect.

When it was all said and done, the water crisis in Neillsville started on Thursday of last week, the main source of the problem was fixed Saturday and the boil water advisory has now been lifted Wednesday.

A combination of a water main break and sewer main collapse caused the main problems for the city, draining one of the city?s water towers and leaving most residents without water Friday morning. The water crisis left businesses scrambling, closed the school district and courthouse. Local businesses brought in more water for residents. And businesses outside the city, including Grassland, Lynn Dairy and Shopko, brought in water for hospital patients to use.

Before the main was fixed, Neillsville lost 1 million gallons of water and the exact cause of the break isn?t known. The Neillsville Public Works Department said that low frost was a possible cause, but the situation was very unusual.
