Cities Fighting Frozen Pipes

Thursday, February 6th, 2014 -- 8:12 AM

-As the long and harsh winter continues, many cities are asking residents to keep their water running at all times.

Several municipalities have asked residents to turn on a cold water faucet and let it run a small, but constant stream of water to help keep pipes from freezing. The stream should be the size of a pencil lead. The bitter cold winter has forced frost deeper than most winters, wreaking havoc on the pipes.

Thorp, Fairchild and Black River Falls have all asked their residents to continually run their water until further notice. Black River Falls alone has fixed close to 30 frozen pipes.

The Neillsville Public Works Department has fixed a handful of broken water pipes this winter as well.
