Listening Session With Representative Bob Kulp, Part 5

Monday, February 3rd, 2014 -- 11:08 AM

-The newly elected Representative of the 69th District, Bob Kulp, held listening session throughout the area on Monday.

I attended Representative Kulp?s session at the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry office and listened as he addressed the concerns of citizens and asked him a few questions.

Representative Kulp talked about a conversation he had with Neillsville School?s District Administrator, John Gaier, about the credits needed to graduate.

"In talking with John Gaier at Neillsville," said Representative Kulp, "one of his frustrations was the lack of flexibility with regards to the credits that are required to graduate from High School. His frustration is that you can get a math credit for a tech ed class, but you have to have a math teacher and a tech ed teacher in the classroom to do that. And that blows small school's budgets way off kilter."

Representative Kulp continued, "He's [John Gaier] asking if something can be done and I think it probably can be where, if you're in a tech ed class and reading a micrometer or a tape measure and doing all the things you need to do for a technical trade, you're getting the math skills you need rather than having a math teacher and a tech ed which blows the budget up. Get the flexibility to get this credit and put emphasis on the trades in that way."

Representative Kulp is a business owner in Stratford and was elected to replace Scott Suder at the end of last year after his resignation.
