Teacher Evaluation System and Administrators' Intentions at Owen-Withee School Board Meeting

Tuesday, December 17th, 2013 -- 8:31 AM

-A Teacher Evaluation System and the Administrators? Intentions for the next school year were discussed at last week?s Owen-Withee School Board Meeting.

A concern that has been discussed as the Board has done its self-evaluation is that members are not confident in their knowledge of how employees are evaluated.

Bob Houts, District Administrator of Owen-Withee, presented the Educator Effectiveness system that the District is using to evaluate teachers. Mr. Houts discussed the year-long process that all teachers go through, the three year rotation of formal observation and evaluation and the annual development of Student Learning Objectives and how they are used to evaluate teachers. In coming months the support staff principal evaluation models will be discussed.

Also, each year in December administrators are asked to give their employment intentions for the next un-contracted year. Mr. Houts, Elementary Principal Lance Batchelor and High School Dean of Students Brian Lewison all indicated that they will be seeking a contract for the 2015-16 school year.

By state statute, the Board has until January 31 to notify the administrator of intent to not renew a contract or the contract automatically rolls over for the next year.
