Curriculm Changes and Policy at the Owen-Withee School Board Meeting
Monday, December 16th, 2013 -- 8:20 AM
-The Owen-Withee School Board approved some curriculm changes at their meeting last week. The only new course that was brought to the Board for approval was an Advanced Manufacturing course offered to juniors and seniors in Owen-Withee?s technology education program. The course is run jointly with CVTC as part of the Advanced Manufacturing and STEM Education project. The course will allow for dual credits at Owen-Withee and at CVTC. The Board unanimously approved the course proposal.
The policy committee had concerns about Proposed Policy 522.7, Rule Procedures for Staff Use of Technology and Communications Resources. This policy deals with staff communicating with students using electronic devices. Upon further examination of the policy, all concerns were addressed. The policy committee will be bringing the 500 Series of policies to the Board for a first reading in January.
The board also discussed the possibility of Policy 165.1 which is similar to 522.7. The Board discussed developing a policy that would be similar to policy 522.7 dealing with electronic communication with students. Policy 522.7 is for Owen-Withee?s teaching and support staff. The Board questioned whether a similar policy covering administration and Board members might be appropriate. The Board has requested that Bob Houts, District Administrator, contact the WASB for possible sample policies.
