Wisconsin Workers Dying On The Job Has Increased

Sunday, December 15th, 2013 -- 9:31 AM

The number of Wisconsin workers who died on the job increased 28 percent last year, in part because of an increase in workplace shootings.

Figures released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Wednesday showed 114 fatal work injuries in 2012 -- 25 more than the year before.

Sixteen people were shot and killed by others while at work, compared to two in 2011. Five others shot and killed themselves.

The report does not identify those killed at work, but several workplace shootings have been widely reported, including the August 2012 shootings at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin that left three priests and the temple president dead and October 2012 shootings that killed three workers at the Azana Salon & Spa in Brookfield.
