-An Illinois hunter has died after being hit by a car on Friday of last week.

Juan Salinas died of his injuries and Fernando Salinas is in serious, but stable condition at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau.

The accident happened at Miller Avenue and County Line Road 9 miles west of Gilman.

According to authorities, the driver of the vehicle that hit the two hunters, 42-year-old James Winchel of Sheldon, was driving at a high rate of speed and the two hunters couldn?t get out of the way. Winchel is recovering from the accident at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire.

The investigation into the crash continues, but it appears that alcohol and speed were factors in the incident.
