Marshfield Man Sentenced for Murdering his Ex-girlfriend

Tuesday, November 19th, 2013 -- 11:13 AM

-A Marshfield man was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his ex-girlfriend.

Gabriel Campos was accused of murdering Maisie McCullough, his ex-girlfriend and mother of his child, back in the Fall of 2012. McCullough had been stabbed and her throat slit. After changing his plea several times, Campos entered a guilty plea to that crime at the end of May of this year.

It was also discovered later that Campos had attempted to hire an inmate to kill the man McCullough was dating after they broke up. Campos had been charged with another homicide, but that charge was dismissed.

During a court appearance back in July, Campos withdrew his guilty plea on the grounds of ineffective counsel and fired his public defenders saying ?they do not have my best interest at heart.? However, in August he decided not to withdraw his guilty plea and sentencing was set for Tuesday, November 19th.

Campos will spend the rest of his life in prison, but he will be up for parole in 40 years.
