Owen-Withee School Board Approves 2013-2014 Revenue Limit

Friday, November 15th, 2013 -- 8:53 AM

-The Owen-Withee School Board approved the district?s revenue limit for this year at their Monday meeting.

With the pieces needed to calculate the district?s revenue limit for this year in place, the board was able to set the final revenue and expenditure figures for the 2013-14 school budget.

Revenues were set at $5,804,589, while expenditures were set at $5,987,850. This leaves a deficit in the budget of approximately $183,000.

The board then unanimously passed a resolution to exceed the state revenue limit by $300,000 starting with the 2014-15 school year and continuing through the 2018-19 school year.

Discussion took place over how much to ask voters for. The current $150,000 override, which expires at the end of this school year, is not enough to keep up with inflation and counter the impact of state cuts to education. The board felt that the $300,000 figure was needed to both maintain their programs and to do some much needed repairs that have been delayed due to lack of funds.

Once the Board approved the resolution to exceed the revenue limit, they needed to pass another resolution to put the question on the ballot for voter approval. The question will be on the February 18th primary election ballot.
