Owen-Withee School Board Discusses Enrollment and State Aid

Friday, October 18th, 2013 -- 8:11 AM

-The Owen-Withee School Board discussed enrollment and state aid at their meeting on Monday.

The enrollment numbers for the third Friday in September count show a decrease in enrollment for Owen-Withee from last year. The district has 522 students attending school this year, but as the Early Childhood students and the 4K students are part time, the district has 506 full time students for state aid purposes.

The Department of Revenue notified the district last week that the total property valuation for Owen-Withee for 2013 is $204,061,568. This is an increase of almost $10,000,000 or 5% over last year?s amount. The higher the property valuation, the lower the mil rate is. As of today, Owen-Withee?s mil rate is set to drop from $8.07 last year to $7.70 for this year.

Also, in a normal year the Department of Public Instruction is to notify districts of their ?certified? state aid by October 15th of each year. Because the legislature is in the middle of debating the governor?s tax relief, the final amount of state aid will not be available until November 1st at the latest.
