Clark County Finance Committee Hears Proposal for Airport Funds

-The Clark County Finance Committee heard a presentation requesting funds for the Neillsville airport on Tuesday.Duffy Gaier presented the committee with several reasons as to why the airport is beneficial to Clark County and he also pointed out the Clark County has never contributed any funds to the airport while adjoining counties, like Jackson and Wood, budget $12,500 and $10,000 to their airports.
In the end, Duffy presented two options for the Finance committee to consider, the first being that the county teams up with the City of Neillsville and goes 50/50 as a sponsor with the city. With this option, Clark County would be responsible for half the cost of day-to-day operations, which is $26,000, and half the cost of any future shared sponsor projects.
The second scenario would be that Clark County would make a yearly contribution to the City of Neillsville and that money would then go to the airport.
The finance committee decided to have the Corporation Counsel draft up an ordinance using option 2 and they will bring that to the full board at their next meeting. They felt an ordinance using the first option would never pass. They also decided to have this presentation given before the entire board, but they stressed to those present that they focus more on the benefits to the county.
