A donor couple has helped create a special waiting room experience for children at the new Marshfield Medical Center-Neillsville medical complex.

Gary and Kay Weirauch are long-time supporters of the Neillsville community. Kay is a retired school teacher and Gary retired from his long-time banking career as CEO of Citizens State Bank.

Kay enjoys her time volunteering for the Gift Shoppe at Marshfield Medical Center-Neillsville, while Gary is heavily involved in The Highground Veterans Memorial Park.

Their recent gift to the building campaign at the Neillsville hospital will help create a children's reading and play waiting area at the new facility.  The waiting area will be made even more special with the talent and craftsmanship of local artist Christine Keller and tech education students at Neillsville High School.

The couple's love of the farms on which they grew up is the inspiration behind the farming theme of the children's waiting space.  Keller has been painting a large mural on the main wall of the waiting area. The mural is a picture of Gary and Kay Weirauch's family farms.

Kay Weirauch's farm, located in Ellsworth, has been in her family since 1876. Included in the mural will be the two Weirauch family dogs, Chewbacca and Skywalker.

The tech education students, under the guidance of Adam Kren at the high school, are building a reading nook in the shape of a barn, a bookshelf silo, and a feeding trough-reading table to compliment the farm mural.

“The child-friendly space will provide a warm welcome for the children of our community," said Ryan Neville, Chief Administrative Officer. “The connection to Kay and Gary make this even more special to our organization."
