Unemployment Drops in Wisconsin

-Unemployment rates decreased in all major Wisconsin cities and most counties last month.

The state Department of Workforce Development reported Wednesday that rates dropped in all of Wisconsin's 32 largest cities and in 69 of 72 counties.

Racine has the highest unemployment rate at 11.2 percent in August. Beloit is second at 10.9 percent followed by Milwaukee at 9.8 percent.

Unemployment increased in only Bayfield County, where it went from 7.5 percent to 8.3 percent. Menominee County had the highest at 16.7 percent followed by Iron County at 9.8 percent.

The statewide unemployment rate was 6.8 percent in August, less than the national rate of 7.3 percent.

Clark County is currently sitting at 5.8% for unemployment compared to 6.3% a month ago and 6.5% a year ago. Clark County is ranked 47th of the 72 counties regarding unemployment. Taking a look at our neighboring counties Taylor is at 5.9%, Chippewa at 5.8%, Eau Claire at 5.4%, Jackson at 6.5%, Wood at 6.8% and Marathon at 6.3%.
