Two Mosinee Teens Accused of Multi-County Crime Spree

Thursday, September 12th, 2013 -- 9:17 AM

-Two Mosinee teens have been accused of being behind a multi-county crime spree.

According to court records, Sawyer Wirkus, age 17, and another teen, Nick Nesbitt age 18, stole two vehicles, attempted to steal two more, stole a gun and burglarized booth a cabin and a shed.

The two boys crimes allegedly started in Marshfield when they stole a truck, vandalized a cabin in Dorchester which is where they got the gun and were in the process of stealing a motorcycle out of a shed when a cop came by. They ran and hid at that point. They later found another truck, stole it and drove back to Marshfield. They later took the truck to Mosinee and then abandoned it in Wausau.

Authorities were able to catch the boys because they left behind several personal items in the first truck that included a Medford High School sweatshirt, an iPhone charger, a bottle of body spray, a Nike Jacket, a backpack and the stolen gun. One of the boys admitted that the items belonged to them.

Investigators also believe the two were behind a series of similar property crimes in Auburndale and Marshfield; however Wirkus said they were not responsible for those crimes.

Saywer Wirkus is expected to be charged for his role on September 24. Nicholas Nesbitt made his initial appearance Tuesday in Taylor County Court. He's charged with eight counts including burglary with a dangerous weapon, theft and criminal damage to property. He's free on a $5,000 signature bond.
