Trimming the Budget and Employment Matters at the Owen-Withee School Board Meeting

-Trimming the budget and employment matters were discussed at the Owen-Withee School Board Meeting on Monday.

The Board continued to look for ways to trim spending in the 2013-14 budget. The board tabled discussion on eliminating the after school program in the elementary until their committee had a chance to meet and discuss ways to trim the budget down to $10,000. It currently sits at $14,000.

The Board also approved cutting the fieldtrip budget by $15,000 but they would allow fieldtrips if they are funded by other sources. The search for more revenue sources and spending cuts will continue for the district.

In employment matters, the Board unanimously approved the resignation of Susan Nelson and thanked her for her many years of service to the district. They also approved the hiring of Dan Mears on a one year contract to fill the 6th grade vacancy created when Ann Harlander-Fitzl agreed to take the Title I reading vacancy created when Susan Nelson resigned.

Finally, the Board approved the maternity leave request of Erin Klapatauskas for seven weeks of leave. Erin will leave when her sons are released from the hospital and she will return at the start of the 2nd quarter in early November. Kathy Winger?s maternity leave was accepted as well. She had a baby boy on September 5th. The leave request started on September 5th and she will return at the start of the 2nd quarter in early November as well.
