$1 Million Cash Bond Set for Taylor County Shooting Suspect

Wednesday, September 11th, 2013 -- 9:12 AM

-The suspect accused of shooting a sheriff?s deputy in Taylor County made an appearance in Taylor County Court on Monday.

On Sunday evening in Westboro, which is north of Medford, Taylor County Sheriff?s Deputy Chad Kowalczyk, originally from Boyd, made contact with 27-year-old Alexander Schneider as a result of a violation regarding a court ordered injunction which stated that Schneider was not allowed to have guns nor was he allowed to have contact with his ex-girlfriend after he was charged for physically abusing and threatening her.

When Kowzlczyk responded to the violation he was shot at several times by Schneider and the deputy?s arm was grazed by a bullet and he was hit in the stomach. Schneider later revealed that he had intended to shoot the officer in the face.

Schneider ran after the incident prompting a manhunt by local authorities. He was caught just after 9pm on Sunday evening. During his court appearance on Monday, a $1 million cash bond was set against him. Authorities are recommending attempted homicide charges.

Schneider is currently being held in the Lincoln County jail and Officer Kowalczyk is recovering at an area hospital.
