Wood County Roll Over Crash Victim Saved by Citizens Passing By

-Wood County Sheriff's authorities credit some passers-by with saving the life of a man knocked unconscious in a roll over crash near the Township of Sigel on Sunday.57-year-old Malcom Leach was driving east on Highway 73 and when he reached the area of Knuth Road his vehicle entered the ditch, overturned, and then started on fire. 50 large hay bales in a nearby farm field also caught on fire.
Wood County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Lee Garrels says people passing by pulled the man from the vehicle and saved his life. Garrels says by the time first responders arrived, the vehicle was destroyed by the fire.
In addition to the driver's injuries, a rescuer was taken to a Wisconsin Rapids hospital for smoke inhalation as well.
