Two Vehicle Crash Near Thorp at the End of August Results in 5th Clark County Traffic Fatality in 2013

-There was a two vehicle crash southwest of Thorp at the end of August.

The accident occurred on Saturday, August 31st around 11:30am at the intersection of Broek Road and Tieman Avenue in the Township of Worden.

According to the Clark County Sheriff?s Department, a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Waylon Copenhaver of Stanley was heading east on Broek Road. Another vehicle, driven by 83-year-old Alvin Benzschawel of Thorp, was heading south on Tieman Avenue and he pulled into Copenhaver?s path.

Benzschawel was transported by ambulance for his injuries. His passenger Betty Benzschawel, age 80 of Thorp, was also injured in the crash and airlifted from the scene. Both Benzschawels were not wearing their seat belts. Copenhaver was wearing his seat belt and only received minor injuries.

Betty Benzschawel passed away during the late evening hours last week Thursday from injuries sustained in this crash. This is the 5th traffic fatality in Clark County for 2013.
