Area Schools Recognized as Title 1 Schools of Recognition by State Superintendent

Friday, September 6th, 2013 -- 8:04 AM

-State Superintendent Tony Evers announced 167 Wisconsin Title I School of Recognition awards for the 2013-14 academic year, an honor that recognizes success in educating students from low-income families.

Schools received awards in three categories: High-Achieving, High-Progress, and Beating the Odds based on specific criteria.

High-Achieving Schools meet all Annual Measurable Objectives for achievement and graduation, have achievement gaps that are less than 3 points between student groups or show evidence of reducing gaps, and demonstrate high achievement at the school level.

High-Progress Schools fall within the top 10 percent of schools experiencing growth in reading and mathematics for elementary and middle school students or the top 10 percent of schools with the greatest improvement in high school graduation rates and have achievement gaps that are less than 3 points between student groups or show evidence of reducing gaps.

Beating the Odds Schools are in the top 25 percent of high-poverty schools in the state, have above-average student achievement in reading and mathematics when compared to schools from similarly sized districts, schools, grade configurations, and poverty levels.

Schools in our area that have been recognized in the various groups include Granton and Owen-Withee as High-Progress Schools. Abbotsford, Greenwood, Marshfield and Stanley-Boyd were all recognized as Beating the Odds Schools.

The state superintendent will host an awards program at the State Capitol on Oct. 8 to further recognize Wisconsin Title I School of Recognition award recipients. Each school will receive a plaque and $500.
