Shooting in Unity May Have Started High Speed Chase in Clark and Taylor Counties Wednesday Evening

Friday, August 30th, 2013 -- 1:33 PM

-The suspects accused of stealing a vehicle, leading police on a high speed chase and firing at them may have been targeting a home in Unity, which lead to the events of Wednesday evening.

According to the Clark County and Marathon County Sheriff?s Department, around quarter after six on Wednesday the Marathon County Sheriff?s Department received a call about shots fired at a residence in Unity. The homeowner said she heard a loud thump in her food pantry around 5:30pm. She noticed holes in her wall and doors and realized they were caused by a bullet.

It was around this time that the Clark County Sherriff?s Department received a notice about a stolen vehicle from Taylor County. Information with the notice said that two juveniles, ages 13 and 15 with one from Taylor and the other from Marathon County, had stolen the vehicle along with two high powered rifles and a large amount of ammunition.

Not long after the notice was received, officers from the Colby Abbotsford Police Department and Clark County Sheriff?s Department located the vehicle. Officers tried to communicate with the two juveniles, but they fled the scene.

During this pursuit in Clark County, multiple rounds were fired from the fleeing vehicle at the Colby Abbotsford Officer?s squad. One round struck the Colby Abbotsford squad which caused minor injuries to the Colby Abbotsford Officer and damage to the squad.

The pursuit continued and entered into Taylor County, but the suspects were lost. About an hour later a second stolen vehicle was reported in the Township of Roosevelt of Taylor County. A Clark County Sergeant was nearby and did locate the first stolen vehicle which was collected as evidence and towed to the Clark County impound.

The two suspects were later apprehended by the Green Bay Police Department after a multi-jurisdictional man hunt.

Investigators from Clark, Taylor and Marathon County Sheriff?s Department along with the Colby Abbotsford Police Department will continue to investigate this bizarre incident.
