Disturbing New Details Released on Death of Former Rapids Police Officer Arrested in Child Sex Investigation

-New disturbing details have been released about the death of a former Wisconsin Rapids police lieutant who was arrested recently in a child sex investigation.Steven Lowe, age 41, was arrested and jailed July 31st on suspicion of child enticement, use of a computer to facilitate a sex crime and sexual exploitation of a child. Lowe was freed from jail when he posted his $20,000 cash bond and he also resigned from the police department that day.
Court records show Lowe posed as a teenage girl and tried to get naked picture of underage boys. Lowe had not been formally charged for the incident as of Monday. The investigation began when a tip was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Lowe was found dead in the back of his truck on Monday. The Wood County Coroner says Lowe died of multiple wounds from a nail gun. Lowe apparently shot himself with the nail gun and died sometime between midnight and 4am on Monday.
Investigators say Lowe?s death is an ongoing investigation.
