Woman Involved With Death of 22-Month-Old Will Proceed to Trial

Tuesday, August 6th, 2013 -- 8:28 AM

-The woman involved with the death of a 22-month-old Osseo girl will go to trial for her actions.

Back in June, police responded to a medical emergency call about Alexis Behlke, being unresponsive. Police say CPR already was in progress when they arrived.

22-year-old Amanda Butts had been watching the girl, her boyfriend?s daughter, that morning. Behlke was rushed to Mayo Health System Osseo, but was pronounced dead a short while later.

The Osseo Police did arrested Butts at the end of July. According to the criminal complaint, Behlke died from acute intoxication from the combined effects of oxycodone, an antihistamine and an anti-depressant. Investigators found bruises on the child's body, and blunt force trauma to her head, chest, arms, and legs.

During a preliminary hearing on Monday, a Trempealeau County judge found probable cause that a crime was committed. Butts will return to court in September.

Butts has been charged with first degree reckless homicide, which carries a maximum possible term of imprisonment of 60 years.
