Clark County Board of Supervisors Takes First Steps Toward Taking on Debt

Friday, August 2nd, 2013 -- 9:17 AM

-The Clark County Board of Supervisors took the first step toward taking on over $1 million in debt.

The measure wasn?t officially approved during Thursday?s meeting last week. The process of getting the paper work started was approved and the board will vote on the matter during their August meeting.

In 2014, Clark County will be completely free of debt. However, several improvement projects would benefit from this acquired debt.

$18,000 is needed for the repeaters on the sheriff?s towers, $42,000 would be used to fund the first part of expenses for air handlers at the courthouse, $160,000 would go towards technology upgrades throughout the entire courthouse and the largest portion of the money, $1.2 million, would go towards highway repairs.

The county is allowed to borrow 5% of its total value and they have several options for taking on debt.

The board members also heard the 2012 annual report for the Social Services Department. Basically, everything increased from 2011 to 2012.
