Medford Girl Sentenced for Lying About Bomb Threat at School

Thursday, July 18th, 2013 -- 9:19 AM

-A Medford girl accused of lying to officials about a bomb threat at the Medford School District has been sentenced.

The 17-year-old allegedly lied to school officials back in February saying she had overheard a bomb threat in the girls? bathroom at the district resulting in over 70% of the student body being absent from school. She later had charges filed against her for the incident.

The girl was supposed to appear in court for a sentencing hearing on Monday of last week, but failed to show up, this being the second time that?s happened.

The teenager was given a day to get in contact with the Taylor County Court, but failed to do so and a bench warrant was issued. She was arrested in Iron County and brought to the Taylor County Jail on Monday. She also had a $250 bond revocation for each case. She was also ordered to not leave the state of Wisconsin, but she was given permission to live with her grandfather in Michigan once the court proceedings are over.

The girl entered a plea of no contest and was found guilty of disorderly contest and obstructing an officer. Two other charges were dismissed, but read into the record.

She will spend 30 days in the county jail with Huber privileges. She also owes restitution of $563.09 plus a letter of apology to the victims.
