224 Lives Claimed In Traffic Crashes

Friday, July 5th, 2013 -- 10:23 AM

Preliminary data from the Wisconsin DOT shows that traffic crashes claimed 224 lives in Wisconsin through the first half of this year ? down about 15 percent compared to the 264 people who died over the first six months of last year.

Despite the overall drop in traffic fatalities so far this year, transportation safety officials say too many people are still being needlessly killed and injured along state roadways.

The State Patrol and other law enforcement agencies will continue working throughout the summer to enforce traffic laws, especially in and around highway work zones.

A total of 58 people died in traffic crashes last month ? the same as in June of last year.
