Traditional Black River Falls Festival Won't Return this Summer

Tuesday, June 11th, 2013 -- 8:22 AM

-Black River Falls won?t see a familiar festival return this summer.

Festival in the Park was canceled this year due to the lack of volunteers. Officials are curious as to how much community interest there is in the event. They also wonder if there will be more interest next year if the festival isn?t held this summer.

The festival is a fundraiser for the Lunda Park maintenance budget which has been funded almost completely through the Lunda Charitable Fund Inc. The festival usually pulled in about $10,000.

The event usually featured sporting activities, food, music and fireworks at the park. The impact of losing the fair is also a little harder as Hixton?s Fourth of July celebration was also cancelled due to the lack of volunteers.

There is hopes that Festival in the Park will return next year and there is also talks about a park group being formed that would assist with planning and staffing the event.
