Clark County Emergency Management Encourages Severe Weather Safety

Wednesday, June 5th, 2013 -- 9:22 AM

-The Clark County Emergency Management wants to remind you about ways to stay safe in our area during severe weather.

The Oklahoma Tornado tragedies along with recent severe thunderstorms and Tornado Warnings for our area are reminders that weather can be a very dangerous and destructive force.

Knowing what to do when severe weather approaches can sometimes literally mean the difference between life and death.

The main threats in our area include tornadoes and severe thunderstorms as well as floods and winter storms. These weather events can bring with them assorted dangers including wind, hail, extreme heat, and lighting along with heavy snow and extremely cold temperatures. It is important to know what hazards can be present as well as the appropriate response to them.

An excellent idea is to have a preparedness plan. Know where your areas of shelter are when severe weather threatens. Have an emergency supplies kit in your home as well as in your vehicle.
