Closing Streets and Changing to Parking Discussed at Recent Neillsville City Council Meeting

Sunday, June 2nd, 2013 -- 7:37 AM

-Closing streets and changes to parking by the post office was approved at the Tuesday Neillsville City Council Meeting.

Three residents appeared before the common council to ask them to approve the closing of 6th through 8th streets in the city to hold an antique car show on Saturday, July 20th.

The individuals already spoke to business owners in the area and they are fine with the closings. Police Chief Brad Lidner said that as long as the business owners are okay with closing those roads, he is okay with it as well.

The individuals said that Relay for Life may be sponsoring the event and they want to promote a fun, family event for the city. They are hoping to do it annually as well. A possible partnership with Heritage Days events, the weekend before, was also mentioned. The item was approved.

Also, making changes to a city ordinance regarding two parking spots in front of the post office in Neillsville was approved. Normally, those sports are supposed to stay open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for post office parking. However, a request was made to change that so no parking is allowed during post office business hours, unless you have business at the office, and then they can be used for parking for other establishments at other times.
